Yard Waste Recycling
Recycling greens is essential to lengthening the life of the landfill. In fact, over three cubic yards of landfill are saved for every ton of greens recycled! By recycling your greens you help the City produce useful compost, mulch and wood chips that are available at the Miramar Greenery.

Household Appliance Recycling in San Diego
Banned from landfill disposals are refrigerators, water heaters, washers, dryers, and air conditioners and are required to be recycled for their metal content. This is to ensure compliance with regulations for proper removal of hazardous materials from the appliances prior to recycling the metal. These hazardous materials include mercury containing switches and temperature control devices, oils, PCB capacitors, and refrigerants. Anyone removing hazardous materials from appliances must be certified by the California Department of Toxic Substances Control. Recycling appliances saves valuable landfill space, protects the environment, and preserves natural resources.
Fact:
With the cooperation of San Diego’s residents, recycling efforts have improved dramatically since 1990. In 2004 we surpassed the State mandate and reached 52 percent diversion. Now the challenge is to maintain the diversion rate over 50 percent and work for even more waste reduction.
