According to recycling industry experts, it is estimated that the United States scraps approximately 400 million units of consumer electronics per year. With e-waste one of the fastest growing waste streams, Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) compliance becomes troublesome for Consumers, Businesses and Manufacturers.
With certain landmark legislation leading the way, California’s Department of Resources Recycling and Recovery (CalRecycle) along with the California Department of Toxic Substances Control (DTSC) enacted the Electronic Waste Recycling Act. In 2010, according to state waste and recycling data, California collected approximately 186 million pounds of e-waste for recycling.
