Recycling Auto Non-Metal Parts

Even the Non-Metal Parts of Your Car are Recyclable

Recycling Auto Non Metal PartsA variety of different materials make up the old car you have sitting unused in your driveway. Metal is, by far, makes up most of the vehicle, but plenty of other recyclable and reusable materials are in the automobile. When you are getting rid of your vehicle, you will find that you can recycle far more than just the metals.

Non-metal Auto Parts to Recycle

Once you strip away all of the metal and bring it to the scrap yard, you will see that you still have quite a bit of recyclable material in a motor vehicle. Two of the most prominent are going to be the glass from the windows and the plastic from the dashboard and the side paneling on the interior. You can take the glass and the plastic to a local recycling center, but you will want to make sure that they accept materials from vehicles first.

Another option is to sell the windshield or other pieces, such as interior handles, to a company or individual who needs them. They will be able to make use of the material, and you can be sure that it isn’t going to go directly into the landfill.

Remember to Recycle Everything

You should also make sure that you consider the other materials in the vehicle that you will need to recycle properly. The oil and the antifreeze are two items that you don’t want entering the ground and destroying the environment. You can drain the oil and antifreeze and then take it to a local auto shop that can dispose of it, or you can take it to a household hazardous waste center in your area.

You can help to save the environment simply by recycling your old auto parts. It’s not difficult to do, and it’s nice to play a part in keeping the environment healthy.
